This Greek Groom is waiting for his bride at the front of the church…
In Australia, Greek couples tend to follow the ‘Australian tradition’ of waiting for the bride at the alter. The groom and the groom’s men all line up at the front of the Church and wait for the bride to walk down the aisle with her father (or parents). This is different to the ‘Greek’ way but i don’t know why or when it changed.
Do all grooms in Greece wait for their bride at the front of the church?

The wedding i was a bridesmaid for in cyprus was my mums little sister, and we walked from my yiayias house to the church where the groom was waiting outside. The violins were playing as we walked…but i cant remember if we followed them, or they followed us… i think we followed them so they were ‘letting everyone know we were coming’.

When the groom waits up front for a bride, he is waiting to be presented with a girl who was being “given away” as property by her father.
The way the Church does it is to have the bride and groom enter the church together, as equals. There is no exchange of “property” from man to man, just the man and woman side by side.
