Do you take your husbands surname or do you keep your own?
All the Greek-Australian brides that i know, change their name as soon as they are married. The bride not only has to create a new signature but she also has to change every single important document she has including her drivers licence, email address, bank cards, credit cards, legal document… almost everything!
To some families, this old tradition is considered a sign of respect but does everyone really do it?
Most South Americans keep their own names and then their children combine both their parent surnames as their own. E.g. Gomez-Schanchez
Women in Finland always keep their own surname and their children inherits the mothers name. When the child turns 18 he/she gets to choose between the mothers surname or the fathers surname.
What did/will you do?

Yes but I wouldn’t go as far as changing my email address because I am keeping both my maiden and taking my husbands last name as well in the future. The norm is to get your hubbys last name but I want to keep both. Use my maiden(i.e. father’s) last name professionally and my hubbys one in everything else. A way to seperate work and private life I guess… *wink*

HOWEVER… And this is a BIG HOWEVER, my boyfriend Nektarios will not be very happy if i decide to do that. I’m sure (if he get’s his way) that i will be changing everything…including my email!!

lol well my man will have a tough time of it because it is not up to him I could opt to not adopt his last name at all and he wouldn’t be able to do anything about it period! IT’s not up to them it’s up to us my opinion always and if he doesn’t like it well he can f-off because really if all he cares about is his stupid last name then he doesn’t really love me and he can go get a maid not a wife. I deserve better than that as any girl does!

In Greece you get to keep your own name, and what’s more, the priest asks what surname you would prefer your children to have, too!!

Thank for your comment Georgia.
WOW, i am really shocked to hear this. Simply because i have always been told that ‘Greeks take their husbands name’ and that ‘children should always go by their fathers name’.
Is this just an option for Greek brides or does everybody keep their own name?
