At most Greek events (when there is alcohol) there is a bottle of scotch that ends up on the dance floor. Sometimes it’s a red label, sometimes a black label but at Greek weddings it is nearly always a bottle of Johnny Blue.
The boys dance around this bottle of scotch as if they worship it. Then everyone takes turns at getting down on to their knees (while still dancing) and try to drink a shot of scotch (straight of course) without using their hands.
Whenever the song ‘soma mou’ by Sfakianakis Notis is played at Greek Weddings, all the boys (and sometimes the girls too) get up to do The Scotch Dance.
What are some other good songs to play for ‘The Scotch Dance’?
Watch this short clip from Youtube. It shows a Greek Macedonian tradition of the pig dance that symbolizes fortune for the future. Here the a pig is presented to the bride and groom on a silver tray and the wedding guests pay for a small piece.

These women are reaching for pins so that they can pin money on the bride and groom during the moneydance.
I thought that this little pillow is a great idea for keeping all the pins in one place. I went to a wedding once and someone dropped the pins all over the floor and the mother of the bride had to pick them all up. Instead of enjoying the moment, everyone seemed to have their eyes glued to the mother’s behind.
Do you know any other handy tricks to pin money on the bride and groom?

The bride and groom have been pinned with money from their family and friends on their wedding day. The money has been pinned in vertical lines just like The Michealides Wedding Dance. Different methods of giving money to the bride and groom (like throwing it in the air) can be viewed in other blog posts including Greek Wedding Dance, Flying Money and Money on the Floor. All of these pictures show a lot of money being given as a gift to the bride and groom but how much money should someone give?
Is there a particular amount a guest should give to the bride and groom? Does the amount differ if you are related to the couple?
This newlywed couple are dancing together holding a white hankerchief. They are completly covered with long strips of money which has been pinned on them as a gift from their wedding guests.
What is the best way to stick the money together into those long strips?
In This Picture:
The Groom is dancing in front of his bride and the other wedding guests as they throw money in the air and on the floor.
The money looks like $US so i am assuming the the wedding couple are Greek-Americans.
Is this custom of throwing money on the floor a Greek-American tradition or does it come from a particular island?

Personally i think i prefer to pin the money, even if it does damage the dress.
Do you pin or do you throw your money?
